An anointed teacher and spiritual shepherd, Pastor Lewis Gunter serves as the Senior Pastor of Gunter’s Chapel Baptist Church in Columbia, SC.
Pastor Lewis Gunter is a native of Lexington County. He is the son of the late Mr. Cellus and Mrs. Beulah Gunter. He is the youngest of three children.
Pastor Gunter was reared in Lexington County where he attended public school. He graduated from Schofield High School, Aiken, SC. He graduated from Benedict College with a B.A. Degree in Social Work.
Pastor Gunter obtained his early Christian growth from Hall Hill Baptist Church, Pelion, SC.
Reverend Gunter has pastored several churches in Richland County; Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Gadsden, SC…where he made his recording “Hear Ye The Word Of The Lord.” He also pastored Gill Creek Baptist Church, Columbia, SC, Jerusalem Baptist Church, Hopkins, SC and Gunter’s Chapel Baptist, Columbia, SC for 41 years, where he is presently Senior Pastor and Founder in 1976. He has conducted revivals throughout the country. He is a member of various Christian Organizations.
He made his mark on the community, city, state and his country by preaching the Word of God, serving in the U.S. Navy for four years, Retiree of The U.S. Postal Service, Counselor, Volunteer services and many other community involvements.
Pastor Gunter has served as an elected Soil and Water District Commissioner for Richland County for six years. He served as The Minority advisor for the Department of Agriculture for Calhoun and Richland Counties. Pastor Gunter has served State Chaplain for the South Carolina Soil and Water Conservation
Pastor Gunter is a family man. He was married to First Lady Lue E. Pearson Gunter. They resided in Columbia, SC. They have 1 son, three Grandchildren and seven Great-Grandchildren.
Pastor Gunter’s hobbies are preaching, reading, hunting, fishing and farming.
Reverend Gunter is truly a gospel preacher, a pastor, a leader and a friend. He believes in making a joyful noise unto the Lord.
Pastor Gunter is a dedicated leader with visions of tomorrow to become more equipped for the Kingdom. His Motto is: ‘PREACH THE WORD, BE INSTANT IN SEASON, OUT OF SEASON: REPROVE, REBUKE, EXHORT, WITH ALL LONG SUFFERING AND DOCTRINE….II TIMOTHY 4:2
