First
Lady Gunter was married to Pastor Lewis Gunter. They resided in Columbia, South
Carolina. She was a native of Florence County, South Carolina and was the third
of six children of the late Deacon John Pearson and Mrs. Pearl Singletary
Pearson and a step-mother, Queen Pearson.
She was
a graduate of Gibbs High School in Pamplico, South Carolina. First Lady
Gunter was a graduate of Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina with a
B.A. degree. She has done other studies at other colleges and
universities.
First
Lady Gunter obtained her early Christian growth at Nettie’s Temple First Born
Church in Lake City, South Carolina, where she served as Youth Bible Teacher,
Choir Member, Usher and faithful Sunday School Member. After marrying to
Pastor Lewis Gunter, she joined the Hall Hill Baptist Church in Pelion, South
Carolina. There she served as a deaconess and choir member.
First
Lady Gunter was an active member of Gunter’s Chapel Baptist Church where she
served to the utmost in many capacities. She was First Lady, President of
the Gospel Choir, President of the Public Relations Committee, Founder and
President of the Empowered Women of Service Outreach Ministry, Adult Bible
Class Teacher, Member of the Intercessory Prayer Group, Counselor, Founder and
Chairperson of Joy Explosion Women’s Conference, Founder and Director of
Empowerment Through Education Program.
First
Lady Gunter was a retired public school teacher of 37 years. She was a
sixth grade teacher at Geiger Elementary School in the Fairfield County School
System. She was awarded teacher of the year, President of SCEA Teacher’s
Association. Recipient of the PIC award though United Way and Volunteer with
Sister Care
First
Lady Gunter was involved in many community organizations. She has done
numerous volunteer services and workshops throughout the state. She organized
an Empowerment Through Education Program which served an After School Program,
Tutorial Program, and a Super Summer Program and served on the Citizen Advisory
Council at Burton Pack Elementary School. She was honored with the key to
the city, a plaque from the house of senate and house of representative for
outstanding service.
First
Lady Gunter was a devoted and dedicated wife. Her life was centered on God, her
husband of fifty-five (55) years, her home, her grand children, great grand
children and her church. First Lady Gunter, truly loved the Lord. Her
calling was, “To Serve This Present Age; and To Fulfill the Master’s Will.”
Her
favorite scripture, Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ
which strengtheneth me.” Her favorite saying, “To God Be The Glory!”
